ART
This piece has a special element by adding 3D elements from inspiration from architecture, model making and experiences producing vector artwork. The illustration beneath is applied by a 0.2 grey and black pen and I used the technique of pointillism. The image I used is referenced from personal photography shot with film in Hyde Park. Raised above, are laser cut outs of MDF and red acrylic, drawn and designed on illustrator. Some parts are raised with piano wire and there are layers of cut outs applied to help with the structure. The piece is to symbolise synchronicity of two, merging and the connection of two, the symmetry and geometry are key factors to the design and representation. This art piece took the longest out of my collection from illustrating the base, designing the 3D layers, laser cutting and putting all the parts together carefully in a neat clean way.
These drawings are based around the fundamentals of Chiaroscuro, Realism and Detail. Various rendering motions are exposed, line, cross hatching, and circular motions, in addition a range pencil weights are used. There are many layers to create this depth and tones. Capturing the moment, plus the striking, classic, black and white feel. I selected a few of my photographs I take with my analogue camera and decided to enhance them. These pieces are intricately produced and rendered carefully.
This piece is hand rendered with pencil and depicts a specific state. Whilst stepping into a state that cuts you off from the world and where time is frozen and is not an important element. The triangles however indicates the intensity, concentration and the deep trance. The man is plotted on a path, which leads off to many directions, showing the many possibilities and openings. Whilst in this surrounding it is a relaxing, vibrant and peaceful mental state to be in. This state is a hiatus from reality and stepping into the self, whilst contemplating with clarity, lasting for minutes or hours, it was a time of new phases and chance, you might feel lost but with hope, reflective and considerate. In addition the illustration is subtly rendered leaving a soft finish to connect with the concept and feelings.
The original piece was sold in October 2012 at Islington Contemporary Art & Design Fair in Angel, London, to a lady who felt the same emotions within the piece and had a true connection to the concept and art.
In this piece, different techniques of rendering were applied and a soft grey pen for the dotted background. I took reference from a picture I captured of this contorted tree. My aim was to use a small and effective pallet of greens; light green, grass green and lime green, on the tree to enhance its appearance, and also making it the main focus of the hand rendered piece. This was a very playful piece and showcasing different motions of rendering, and its vibrancy made it very popular amongst people.
The piece was sold at Islington Contemporary Art & Design Fair in London in October 2012, it was a gift passed from mother to daughter, as they admired the beauty in the special colourful tree.
La Joya, The nickname given to the footballer, Paulo Dybala, La Joya, meaning the Jewel. I have supported Juventus for over two decades, and I always been meaning to produce an art piece based on the team and one of my favourite players.
Dybala plays with elegance, finesse and guile. He always has a playful approach and rhythmic and slick movement. High skill set and a special gift of great technique. He has a golden left foot, and produces moments and goals of pure beauty and high class. He is one of the gems and stars in the football world and has always been a pleasure to watch.
A range of pencil weights and rendering techniques are applied to create these tones. In addition a small use of a 0.2 grey pen was applied for pointillism on the stadium. This piece required patience and high levels of concentration, through many sessions I was able to complete this drawing and it has a striking finish.
Personal drawing created in the winter of 2015, I’am born in the Chinese zodiac year of the snake. I have always been fascinated with snakes, their rhythmic, flowing, sharp movements, their skin has always been deep in colour, plus striking and fierce. This green viper is filled with various greens: dark, grass, lime, light, pastel. The other pencils I used; H, HB, 2B, 4B and white. I focused on making this snake electrifying and energised, with the viper’s distinctive stance. A vary of pencils were used and attentive rendering petal by petal.
This piece was my first art piece and the spark and inspiration. The summer of graduation, I went for a walk to the local park, where the sun was blazing in the late afternoon. I look at the skies often, at night and during the day, I like watching clouds pass and stars arise, the pure, natural light of the moon and sun and colours, tones created whilst they circulate. On this afternoon, the blustering, fiery shaped clouds created many transparencies and light shining through from the sun. When I envisage ideas in life I tend to crop and frame my vision and also add different filters and ideas. I cropped this panoramic shot and decided to draw a small strip, only 41mm in height, and my main focus was detail and producing these tones I felt and saw. The panoramic strip was inspired by Chinese & Japanese painted scrolls, I initially wanted to create a miniature scroll, that can fit in your hands. This is a precious and unique piece and very carefully rendered within the small dimensions as the explosive tones and shapes catch the eye, created with patience and a calm pulse.
Novak Djokovic, one of the greatest tennis players to play the game and a star in the world of sport. Known for his return of serve, ultimate defence, extreme flexibility, endurance, stamina, focus, mental and physical toughness. I have always admired Djokovic's game and also personality of discipline, hard work ethic and self mastery of becoming an elite athlete in the world and strive towards being number one and one of the greatest.
This hand rendered piece is created with pencil & pen. The background is composed with pointillism, an out of depth of felid background with the blur, in addition being completed with pointillism would add to the diffused effect. Djokovic is rendered with pencil, many weights and layers of pencil work was applied, to enhance and bring Novak out of the piece with a hyper realistic effect with the depth. The only colour within the piece is the green tennis ball applied with dark, grass, lime green pencils.
I focused on taking smaller timed sessions, working on small areas by small areas, firstly with the pointillism background and then the pencil work. More breaks within the small timed sessions and rest for the eyes, as I had a careful and patient approach. I feel the mix between the diffused pointillism background and realistic pencil rendered Djokovic, balance well and the greens of the tennis ball adds a nice element.
These Pointillism illustrations are all gifted to close friends that have showed immense care and support for me during my time. Scenic views, pleasurable and soft on the eye and a delicate finish.
Pointillism piece created in March, 2020, The scenic Machu Picchu in Peru. This illustration was created using 0.2 black and grey pens. Many hours and pensive concentration was attended to whilst doing this artwork. The piece is just under A3 in size, requiring many intricate dots to cover and fill the scale. I gained a pace and rhythm whilst producing the landmark and part by part it came together.
I produced this artwork for my close friend and as a wedding gift. On their many travels and adventures and their journeys, they shared a special moment and memory at Machu Picchu.
This piece is created with pencil and pen, and was commissioned to promote the new development in Greenwich Peninsula and Design District. I have used a colour pallet of shades of blues, yellows and greys to give this piece a graphic and contemporary edge. I have illustrated the forefront of the design with an architectural style, a view into what is inside.
These sections represent activities within London, and cycled in time. On the building on the left, include a restaurant, signifies eating and dining, they are many options with food and varieties of cultures merged into London. Having meals is a constant cycle to keep us going energised, and also a treat with delicious food available. Above is a cinema, which is one of my favourite places to relax and be entertained. I watch a lot of films and animations, I feel it cuts you off from what is outside for the duration of the movie. I also draw inspiration from elements of cinematography and film.
Above is a tea room, tea is the universal language for peace and warmth, plus common with meetings, breaks within work, mornings, and a catch up with friends, reading or alone with music to relax and indulge. Above is a bar, I have lived in London my whole life, and on weekends and Friday evenings, many bars, pubs are busy and overloaded with people, to have fun on the weekend and enjoy a few drinks. On the bottom and centre is a London underground tube station, and going below is a train and carriages. Transport is important to keep us moving, through peak hours, commuting to work, seeing friends and family and for day outs. It keeps us connected and ensuring we can travel through our city.
On the right there is a library, apartment, and the waiting room. The waiting room, on the first floor, has a reception, lounge, I feel we are all always waiting for something or someone. Above is a library, representing learning and development, this is vital for this city and students from all over the world come to London to study, It is a Hub and there is always room to learn and progress.
Above the library is an apartment, the lounge is all very dark. I watch a lot of sports on TV, and you can be on the edge of your seat or sink into the sofa. The lounge can be the black hole as it can just suck you in for hours at times. The room aside is a studio with a large desk, as artists, we all need a comfortable, peaceful place to create. Above, is the bedroom and balcony, music from vinyl’s is playing, there is also a jacuzzi on the balcony, I feel every individual needs their break from a busy, hectic city, to refresh their minds and rest the body. In the background and centre is the o2 Arena applied with pointillism. The o2 arena, is one of many landmarks along the River Thames.
