About

My name is Amar Singh Azad. I’m an Artist, Photographer and Graphic Designer from London. During my time and practice I have developed a sensitive and intricate eye; specialising in pencil work, pointillism and photography. I have always been creatively infused and I’m happy to share my moments and my art & photography with you all.

I specialise in drawing with pencil, creating realistic landscapes and still life images. In school, I always used to draw objects and viewpoints of interiors and landscapes. Sitting quietIy in classrooms through primary and high schools practicing rendering and pencil work, I realised it had a therapeutic and calming effect on me. Early on, we learnt the effects of Chiaroscuro and layers and I always focused on these elements. In 2004, whilst in high school, I went to Tate Modern for the Edward Hopper exhibition, I was delighted to see this exhibition and it had great influences on me. My favourite painting is the Nighthawks.

I was always focused on detail, and used my tools in a neat and accurate way, resulting in my pieces exhuming an atmosphere. I have different ways of rendering; cross hatching, linear lines, and circular motions, which is created by tiny repudiative circles over lapping and creating layers leaving a soft, subtle finish.

I also started with pointillism later in high school, pointillism was becoming very popular. I started to experiment and through development with this technique, I started to leave space around each single dot, which left a diffusing effect. Repudiative but rhythmic, with a slow pace and taking many sessions and hours to produce. Whilst looking at a finished dotted piece, a feeling of huge relief and accomplishment arises, and the artwork was tranquil on the eye.

Photography is a subject I enjoy and have a huge passion for. Capturing details of our journeys and focusing on subjects that grasp our eye. Healing and giving a warm feeling with excitement.

I was guided to study a Degree of Graphic Design and Visual Communications at UCA (University of Creative Arts). After I finished university, I had a few breaks within work and patches of drawing and photography. I worked with Park Plaza Hotel at Westminster Bridge as a Graphic Designer for 3 years, and had short temporary work spells with M&S for design support and Artworking with Rotary Watches. I continue to take on freelance design work. I have regular clients within my network and it’s nice and fulfilling to see recipients of my artwork, happy and appreciative with content that meet their objectives.

In addition, I have interest in auras of interiors and the precision of architecture and has always been inspiring to me. I have also undertaken an intense short course in Interior Design for 10 weeks at Central Saint Martins. I continue to attend numerous architecture exhibitions, one of my favourite architects is Shigeru Ban.

I function in a very methodological and organised way, there is a rhythm built over sessions of work. I always produce with care, affection and patience and creating pieces with finesse and delicacy. I have incense burning often to make me feel relaxed, with the aromas flowing through the room. There is a tranquil setting in a clean room to spread a gentle and warm aura, the space I work within is key for keeping me steady with content and comfort. Little intervals of tea to give me warmth and soothing energy. Art, photography and design has a special significance to me, my scope, my individuality and my persona.
